ELLIOT LAKE, Ont. – Former Ontario premier Dalton McGuinty is set to testify today at the judicial inquiry into last year’s deadly mall collapse in Elliot Lake.
McGuinty is expected to answer questions about his involvement in the restart of the rescue effort.
Residents were stunned when the search was called off, but resumed after a late-evening call with the then-premier.
Previous witnesses have said McGuinty simply wanted to ensure everything was being done to try to save the victims.
However, the effort came too late for two women, Doloris Perizzolo and Lucie Aylwin, who died in the rubble.
McGuinty will be the final witness at the hearings, which began in March.
