One injury in VIA rail collision with freight train
 

One injured in Eastern Ontario Via Rail collision

The train was travelling from Ottawa to Toronto with about 300 people on board


 

GANANOQUE, Ont. – Via Rail train service is scheduled to resume today on the Toronto to Montreal and Toronto to Ottawa routes.

The service was shut down Friday after a collision between a Via train and a CN freight train east of Kingston, Ont.

Via says the freight train struck the passenger train’s locomotive and a few cars about seven kilometres from Gananoque.

It says the train was travelling from Ottawa to Toronto with about 300 people on board.

One passenger reported a minor injury.

Buses replaced train service on the two routes for the rest of Friday.
