Organizers hope thousands turn out for march against Quebec values charter

MONTREAL – Organizers of a multicultural protest against Quebec’s proposed charter of values are hoping thousands of people will hit the streets in Montreal today.

Members of the Muslim, Sikh, native and Jewish communities have said they will join the march against restrictions on the wearing of religious symbols in the public service.

The plan unveiled by the Parti Quebecois government earlier this week has sparked a heated debate.

While opinion polls indicate there is some support for the charter, mainly in the province’s outlying regions, opponents have called it discriminatory.

Adil Charkaoui, a spokesman for the Quebec Collective Against Islamophobia, has said the noontime demonstration is only one of several planned actions against the proposed charter.

The government wants to forbid Quebec’s public employees from wearing conspicuously visible religious symbols — including hijabs, turbans, yarmulkes and larger-than-average crucifixes.

Premier Pauline Marois says the move is necessary so the public service presents a neutral face.

  1. The belief in freedom of rights , freedom of all religions dictates that it is RIGHT to be personally free to worship any ‘god’, any belief….. without showing any discrimination of or preference for any ‘religion’…..this is being religiously “neutral”.

The PQ government is not saying that one cannot worship one’s personal ‘god’….in fact the PQ government with its charter of “neutral” religious values is saying that you can personally worship any ‘god’…..and its EMPLOYEES (those working for the government) must not discriminate against or show preference for any ‘religion” by showing highly visible displays of their “personal” religion. When they are on government time, they represent the government and therefore cannot show preference for and discriminate against any “religion” via outer displays.

Imagine if all government employees would wear large “crosses”….this would create pressure and intimidation on people of other beliefs…since it would give the impression that all perspectives and decisions are influenced by the ‘cross’…which would imply discrimination against those that did not wear a “cross” and which imply preference for those that did wear a ‘cross’.

However, there is a much more serious problem with this “religious neutrality’…with this worship of freedom of self rights, self-religions……This belief confesses that all religions are equal, that all ‘gods’ are equal…..

….This FREEDOM , this “neutrality”, denies that there is Only One Creator God…it denies that His Son the Christ is the ONLY True Way of life….BUT it is written that one is to worship ONLY the One Lord Creator God and Him Alone to serve in obedience to His Will….and it is written that all will be judged by this One Creator God and that it is ONLY Jesus Christ, His Son, that will rule the earth as the One King according to the Will of the One God …and NOT according to man’s first love for his ‘neutral’ freedom will.

But this all people reject and will reject…and there will be weeping and great anger when every individual’s freedom to worship ‘any god’ will be no more.
