MONTREAL – The Parti Quebecois will choose a new permanent leader to replace Pierre Karl Peladeau this fall.
The party named longtime member of the legislature Sylvain Gaudreault as interim leader on Friday.
Peladeau announced his political resignation Monday, saying he wants to spend more time with his children.
Former cabinet ministers Alexandre Cloutier and Veronique Hivon are considered front-runners for the permanent job if they choose to run.
Party president Raymond Archambault says the vote will happen between Sept. 15 and Oct. 15.
The next provincial election is set for the fall of 2018.
