Mort Lightstone (Air Force) of Ottawa, ON joined the Royal Canadian Air Force to help support his family at 18. The next thing he knew, he was flying in a war zone. He served in the Korean War as a part of the air lift that provided essential support to United Nations Forces. He remained in the service for a total of 28 years and logged some 6,600 hours in flight missions. He has dedicated much of his retirement to raising awareness for the so-called “Forgotten War” in classrooms across Canada.

The Memory Project: Mort Lightstone

  1. Mort Was an Excellent Officer. He did one thing that every other young junior officer on the RCAF Station appreciated. He volunteered to be Orderly Officer at Christmas, which as a Jew, he did not celebrate.
