TORONTO — Tests are being done on Toronto Mayor Rob Ford in a hospital where doctors diagnosed a tumour in his abdomen.
Doctor Ruebin Devlin, the CEO of Humber River Hospital, says pain that began in Ford’s abdomen three months ago became “unbearable” yesterday.
At a news conference, Devlin says the tumour is not small, but adds that’s not as important as determining what type it is.
He says once that’s determined, a decision will be made on what treatment will be needed.
Standing next to Devlin was a visibly shaken Councillor Doug Ford, who said his brother is “in good spirits.”
Doug Ford also asked for privacy, and said he might have something to say in the next day or so about his brother’s campaign for re-election.
The vote is set for the 27th of next month.
Former New Democrat MP Olivia Chow says her “thoughts and prayers” are with the mayor.
John Tory, who is also running for Ford’s post, says his thoughts are with the entire Ford family, and wishes Ford a speedy recovery.
