More child porn charges laid against former deputy education minister

TORONTO – A man who once held the post of deputy education minister in Ontario and Manitoba is facing more charges in a child pornography investigation.

Benjamin Levin, who was also on Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne’s transition team as she took office earlier this year, is facing two new charges in addition to five laid on Monday.

The latest charges of possessing child pornography and accessing child pornography were laid as the 61-year-old appeared in court today for a bail hearing.

Levin, a University of Toronto professor, was arrested on Monday.

Toronto police say the investigation, which began a few months ago, is still ongoing and has involved authorities in London, Ont., and New Zealand.

Levin’s lawyer says he plans to “vigorously” fight the charges.

The Ontario government has confirmed that Levin served on the premier’s transition advisory team but hasn’t commented on the charges except to say that it takes allegations like those against Levin “extremely seriously.”

Levin served under former Premier Dalton McGuinty as deputy minister of education from late 2004 to early 2007.

He also served as Manitoba’s deputy minister of advanced education and deputy minister of education, training and youth between 1999 and 2002.

He has most recently been working as a professor and research chair in education and leadership at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto.

  1. Found this on another forum:

The recent allegations of a senior Ontario education official being
indicted to child pornography charges raises question of the safety of
    students in Ontario schools.

One school board which appears to mirror the conduct of Benjamin Levin is the Toronto District School Board.

There are allegations of several administrators of the Toronto District
School Board namely Ms.G ordy S tefulic, Ms.V arla A brams and Ms.V ivian
M avrou, along with many other teachers who are protected by the TDSB,
about them being caught red-handed performing sexual intercourse with
    students.

The TDSB Disciplinary Committee was very lenient on the allegations, and
some students were reported to have been bribed or intimidated to keep
the matters private. The TDSB Disciplinary Committee is in the habit of
transferring any teacher accused of student sex to other schools. This
leads to numerous risks associated with the students of the schools
where the teachers are transferred to.

Interestingly, some commentors have been intimidated by people claiming
to be TDSB administrators who worked with the sex predator teachers. In
addition, there are speculations that the TDSB is encouraging censorship
of any comment which exposes the conflict of interest TDSB Disciplinary
Committee and the teacher-student sex cases which occur in the TDSB.

The allegations of a former Ontario education official is just a small
matter as some of the Ontario school boards are guilty of sexual crimes
    against minors.

Why are the teaching unions protecting the white, female sex offending
teacher? That is what needs to be answered. I doubt if a black teacher
was accused of having sex with students, the black [female] teacher will be
allowed to teach. Is there also a discriminatory favour treatment
occurring in the Toronto District School Board?

the Toronto District School Board has more sordid sex stories which need
to be informed to the public. Unfortunately, the Toronto District
School Board administration is keen on protecting their own cronies
while censoring any comment which exposes the TDSB’ wrongdoings. I
believe the Toronto District School Board is infringing the Charter of
Rights and Freedoms and being discriminatory as white female teachers
could be allowed to teach amidst unethical allegations of student sex
    relations and pedophilia.

  2. there is a photo of this guy sitting with Trudeau Jr and the new PM.I wonder what their thoughts are on this matter?

    • I should have said the new premier of Ont. Harper had the good sense to stay away from the pride show.

  3. Where are all the Flanagan and Toews critics?

  4. Sex Education becomes necessary for students nowadays and also it plays a vital role in students life.
