Tiger attacks zookeeper in Quebec

ST-FELICIEN, Que. – A tiger attacked and seriously injured a zookeeper in an incident being investigated by police and the provincial workplace-safety board.

The incident occurred Thursday morning when the employee went to clean the tiger’s area. For some reason, the animal was still there when it was supposed to have been stored away in its nocturnal pen.

Other employees at the zoo in St-Felicien, Que., managed to rescue their colleague after the animal moved away toward another part of its habitat.

The 51-year-old man is expected to survive, although he has sustained deep wounds.

The incident is being investigated, with police also involved in case a criminal act was committed.

Zoo officials have not decided what to do with the tiger.
