Tories recruit the former head of Quebec carnival as a candidate

The latest Tory hopeful is Jean Pelletier, the former head of Quebec City’s well-known winter carnival

OTTAWA – Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s Conservatives have capped off a good week in Quebec by snagging another high-profile candidate.

The latest Tory hopeful is Jean Pelletier, the former head of Quebec City’s well-known winter carnival.

He will seek the nomination in Beauport-Limoilou, which is currently held by the NDP’s Raymond Cote.

On Thursday, a Conservative source said Victoriaville Mayor Alain Rayes will announce his candidacy in a central Quebec riding on Monday.

And on Tuesday, a highly regarded member of the Quebec legislature said he wants to run for the party in a Quebec City riding.

Gerard Deltell of the Coalition for Quebec’s Future is considered a good catch who could help the Tories improve on their performance from the 2011 election when they won five out of 75 seats in the province.
