U.S. President Barack Obama used his Saturday-morning address to lobby for a deal on tax rates. Just a day earlier, John Boehner, Republican speaker of the House of Representatives, said negotiations had reached a stalemate. ‘Let’s not kid ourselves,’ he said. ‘At this moment, we’re almost nowhere.’
