A high honour

Congratulations to Lisa Raitt, who has been given Seat #43 in the House of Commons, now officially known as the Rona Ambrose Memorial Chair. Ms. Ambrose was promoted to the frontbench in this new Parliament and, quite coincidentally, the seat immediately visible on television over Stephen Harper’s left shoulder when he speaks has been given to another woman.

Watching the Prime Minister speak this morning, one might’ve noticed that Raitt has also already perfected that subtle gesture known as the Rona Ambrose Memorial Head Nod.

A high honour

  1. Watching the Prime Minister speak this morning, one might’ve noticed that Raitt has also already perfected that subtle gesture known as the Rona Ambrose Memorial Head Nod.

Don’t you just love that? It reminds me of Family Feud.: “Good answer…oh yeah…uh-huh…”

  2. Wow, what a partisan waste of my time.

  3. Makes me wish Richard Dawson would be invited to kiss the team leaders upon a ‘good answer’…

  4. Will Navdeep Bains still hold the seat immediately behind Stephane Dion, or will it also be coincidentally given to someone who is not a white male?

  5. Hey, it could be worse — we could still be in the era when the big parties wanted to put women and minorities out of sight…

At least now parties feel the need to exaggerate diversity. Someday, they won’t have to exaggerate (and/or we won’t give a damn, because it won’t be a novelty).

  6. The press is catching up to the fact that the Conservatives elected an additional 9 female MP’s last election.

Indeed, no party has elected more female MP’s to Parliament than the Conservatives have this election.

  7. Good answer, Jarrid. Oh yeah…uh huh…

  8. I’ll answer my own question. The spot behind the OLO’s left shoulder is now occupied by Marlene Jennings. If Scott Brison could get into the frame somehow we’d have a politically correct Bingo.

Bains, incidentally, has surprisingly been moved to the back corner of the Liberal section of the HoC.

FYI, the CBC has an interactive seat map.

  9. Who is Jack’s nodding-jack? Also a woman?

  10. I noticed that too. In fact, I was so distracted by Ms. Raitt that I failed to notice who the other two women were who formed his backdrop. I think one was Gail Shea, but who was the other?

Oh… wait… I can look it up! Thanks!
