BTC: The inevitable

Once again, from the desk of Liberal Robert Thibault.

“I would like to clarify my statement that appeared in the Hill Times this week. My comment was not meant to be gender-specific and I in no way intended it to be interpreted in that way.  If anything I said can be interpreted as sexist, I unequivocally and wholeheartedly apologize and withdraw my comments. I have always been a strong supporter of women in politics and want to encourage not hinder their participation in the public sphere.”

BTC: The inevitable

  1. Maybe Thibault should just shut up at this point.

  2. Marjorie LeBreton has done nothing to support senior women, she does not even reply to our e-mails. I agree with Thibault, she is at her best serving vacuous comments (tea) for the Prime Ministers.

  3. I love these non-apology apologies. We are supposed to believe his cracking wise about making tea is not gender specific, like he would have used the same expression if he was going after a male opponent.

Have to agree with boudica. Hey, Thibault, when you find yourself in a hole, stop digging!

  4. I’m no fan of Lebreton but I take issue with such sexist comments. He didn’t even have enough sense to avoid saying something like this to a reporter.

    Unacceptable.

  5. Overreaction to the hilt….anyone talking about the antics on the committe hearings and the unethical games the Tories are playing trying to cover up the truth?

Where the hell is the press.

By the way, any CPC trolls, before I take you people seriously about apologies, I suggest Harper and his gang of thugs have many outstanding apologies owed.

  6. I am certain Ms. LeBreton was equally offended when her colleague told Alexa McDonough to stick to her knitting, and compared Belinda Stronach to a “dog”.

Next time my mother asks me to make tea, I’ll call her a mysoginist pig.

  7. From what I can tell Sandi, the press (at least CTV) is more concerned that the Chinese might have lip-synched the little girl at the opening ceremonies.

  8. There does seem to be a lot of tension amongst Atlantic MP’s these past few weeks. Inappropriate comments followed by recalcitrant retractions are more evidence of this. I thought The Green Shift was supposed to lower the earth’s temperature but it does seem to be having the opposite effect, at least in Atlantic Canada.

  9. Well,Jarrid, I’m in Atlantic Canada and right now the Green Shift is probably what my mother-in-law wore to the beach yesterday.
The Tories and their tame punditi may be going ga ga over their tactical brilliance but … it’s summer in the Maritimes.

  10. Sisyphus,

I spent a summer in the Maritimes a number of years ago and I get your drift. Still, the fact that Liberal MP’s and candidates seem to be skittish during the placid summer period is precisely why I think something is amiss.

Scott Brison was raked over the coals by the Guelph Mercury for mudslingging the conservative candidate, Thibault’s flown off the handle twice, and the Egmont PEI Liberal candidate has gotten cold feet, all in the past week.

  11. “Still, the fact that Liberal MP’s and candidates seem to be skittish during the placid summer period is precisely why I think something is amiss.”

Nice attempt at spin there. Why do you think they are “skittish?”

  12. No,jwl, my point is you could take a two week walking tour of the Maritimes and fail to find anyone who cared that Thibault was cranky right now.
The Liberals are antsy because they have no idea where they’re going or how to get there.
The Tories down here are a rump of failed Reformers who think God is the Entrepreneurial Spirit and looks like Brian Lee Crowley, combined with a lot of old PCers who would vote Liberal if their grandfather’s ghost would let them.
And they NDP (with some success) are still fighting Chretien’s second budget.
The only people paying attention are the twenty people who post here, who enjoy reading Kady and who can find CPAC on the cable remote.

  13. Sisyphus

I think you mis-directed your comment. I have no thoughts one way or another about what Maritimers are thinking. Jarrid, I think Sisyphus is talking to you.

  14. Wow, where have Lebreton and Ambrose and the other Conservative women been for the last two years… You see there was this guy named Peter MacKay… I am awaiting their release on his comments, must have got stuck in the fax.

  15. “The only people paying attention are the twenty people who post here, who enjoy reading Kady and who can find CPAC on the cable remote.”

That pretty well summarizes the people who are intererested in the so-called “in and out scandal”. Kady O’Malley and a few Libloggers. I’m waiting for Kady to start haranguing the media for failing to cover this story of the century.

  16. “Kady O’Malley and a few Libloggers. I’m waiting for Kady to start haranguing the media for failing to cover this story of the century.”

Jarrid, the story is on the online homepage of every newspaper in the country.

  17. Nice try boudica. Actually, Thibault apologizing again is the lead story on CTV.ca as we speak. People can actually understand that story…

I had a look at the Star and even they barely mention it. If even the Star can’t get worked up about it…’nough said.
