Edmonton’s new mayor, Don Iveson, is preoccupied with the things you’d expect an Edmonton mayor to be worried about: rapid population growth and the resulting strain on the city’s infrastructure. Since Edmonton will be a crucial line of Conservative defence against NDP and Liberal gains in the next election, Iveson has real political clout this year.

Earlier, Iveson made his 30-second pitch—on escalator between floors at the Ottawa Convention Centre—for where he sees Canada in 2020.
