LAYTON MEETS WITH MAYOR OF SARNIA

SARNIA, ON – New Democrat Leader Jack Layton will meet with Mike Bradley, mayor of Sarnia on Thursday, the morning after hosting a town hall to listen to the concerns of local families.

“As one of the communities sitting on the Ontario’s border with Michigan, Sarnia is a manufacturing stronghold and it’s hurting,” said Layton. “Mayor Bradley knows this community better than anyone and he knows where stimulus can be used right now.”

Bradley has been Sarnia’s mayor for over 20 years. During this time, he has been a strong voice for Southwestern Ontario, calling on the federal government for help funding infrastructure projects around the region.

Consolation prize

  1. Wherry, I laughed out loud when I read the title of your post and then looked down at the press release headline “LAYTON MEETS WITH MAYOR OF SARNIA”. Perfect example of the comedic potential of a well-chosen title.

  2. To be fair, I suppose Gilles Duceppe isn’t meeting with The One (TM) either. Ditto Lizzie May.

  3. Comedic timing in writing is difficult, but you pulled it off. I really should stop suddenly laughing at work.

  4. In a matter of national import (see below ), will Jack call him Mr. Mayor or Mike ?

    • When all is said and done, i suspect that Jack will have the most productive day of the lot. Steve’s gonna be too busy keeping those unruly Canadian press groupies from clearing their throats, GG’s gonna have her nose in the protocal manual and Iggy’s gonna doing his best uncle Abe ‘ i’m really a man of the people too shtick,’

  5. Paul Wells must be torn on which event to cover.

  6. You laugh, but this will be the most exciting thing to happen in Sarnia all year.

      • Jack Layton is like 10 Bayfests.

  7. I thought Sarnia was where C.S. Lewis staged his epic work – The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe? – oops that was Narnia .

    • I understand time passes much more slowly in Sarnia than in Narnia (or was that than in Ottawa?)

  8. Consolation Prize.

Yes, well, Mayor Bradley, we can’t always get our first choice. Or second. Or twelfth…
