See for yourself

Last night’s two-hour debate is now on YouTube in its full and unabridged glory.

See for yourself

  1. I thought Layton did really well and I don't usually like his debating style. He was better than Ignatieff at bringing high-level issues like respect for Parliamanent down to the ground level.

Harper did well by not doing poorly. He clearly got his annual pre-debate tranquilizer.

Duceppe was entertaining, but not as good as he's been in the past. He was on fire with the coalition issue though.

I thought Ignatieff was disappointing. He wasn't scrappy enough. He needs to kill the 'jets, prisons, and corporate tax cuts line.' It's just too jingoy and doesn't work.

My overall verdict would be that Harper won by not losing. Disappointed in the substance of the debate though. We hear about keeping the streets of Gibson BC safe, but no discussion of Libya, no real discussion on Afghanistan, and several other important issues. I guess a debate is no place for policy discussions.

  3. The debate in its 'full and unabridged glory'?

Never has the word 'glory' been used so inappropriately.

  5. Anyone have any demographics data on who watches these debates? Ratings?

  7. I thought youtube video's were capped at 15 minutes!!??!!

  8. Oh, oh, oh!

I heard Rights and Democracy. twice, or three times! At least two in the debates, and once by David Herle post debates as an example of saying drop it – it means nothing outside of the Ottawa bubble.

I wonder how many column inches it will cover in the next Wells mag piece. A crowning piece to a year's work.

    • Which reminds me, I could swear I attended a retirement party for you.
      <crickets>

      • Btw those were crow and cucumber sandwiches you were wolfing down (the crickets were the long chocolate things).

But, since Mitchel Raphael didn't show up for pics, I figuredf it wasn't official.

  10. Nobody would watch this for more than 15 minutes anyways. I think they found a successful loophole.

  13. I thought watching this debate for a 2nd time was banned by the Geneva convention…

    • Only if you force someone to watch it, or threaten somebody that you'll make them watch it. I don't think there's any law or international treaty against torturing oneself.
