Where does the electronic trail lead?

Stephen Maher and Glen McGregor break news of an Elections Canada investigation into deceptive phone calls made during the last campaign.

Elections Canada has traced fraudulent phone calls made during the federal election to an Edmonton voice-broadcast company that worked for the Conservative Party across the country. While the agency investigates, aided by the RCMP, the Conservatives are conducting an internal probe. A party lawyer is interviewing campaign workers to find who was behind the deceptive “robocalls.”

Where does the electronic trail lead?

  1. So, if this were done over the internet instead of the phone lines, would their new law be used to catch themselves?  Maybe that’s why it was done over the phone lines, eh?

  2. Let’s see them serve some mandatory minimum sentences.

  3. I think a very young, naive staffer in the PMO is gonna find himself tossed under a bus tomorrow morning. Honestly, how can this Government continue with this being public? This “telemarketing agency” was hired for Harper’s own riding campaign and along with a dozen or more unsafe Liberal held ridings during the May election. And we all know nothing happens in this Government without the PM and the PMO signing off on it.

  4. Silly Canadians, consequences are for Liberals.

  5. What you can expect from Harper and company, bearer of Great Canadian Values!!

Someone has to stand up and say shut up Harper and Kenny there is no Canadian Values we all are following HUMAN VALUES which is infect Canadian Values!!!

  6. It might be an idea to check the company books to SEE WHO HIRED THEM!  ……………

  7. What is so very disturbing about this disgusting government is that they never have the decency to apologize to the Canadian people.   They just keep lying and lying and lying.  Frankly, I find them all a very cowardly and distasteful bunch – not much in the way of men.

  8. Guilty until proven innocent obviously.

    • wow-what it is going to take to get you and others like you to pull your heads out-this is not something the cons can dismiss or bully Canadians into accepting…study how dictatorships get started, and realize you are living in and supporting one.

    • “The fact is this has been going on  as long as politics in this country. It is a normal part of politics in this country and it’s not a kind of speech that should begin to be chilled at this point.”

    • “Obviously,” said Dear Leader, “obviously.”

  9. Voice Blast: This is the transcription of the fake Elections Canada voice blast that went out to select voters in the riding of Guelph
This is an automated message from Elections Canada. Due to a projected increase in voter turnout, your poll location has been changed. You new voting location is at the Old Quebec Street Mall at 55 Wyndham Street North. Once again, your new poll location is the Old Quebec Street Mall at 55 Wyndham Street North. I believe that it is against the law to impersonate a federal agency, is it not?

  10. The Cons support the law when it is in their interest – rarely – and break it at will when it is not.
This government is illegitimate from the top down.

  11. What’s with Guelph?  Wasn’t it in Guelph, during a by-election, that the homes of Liberal supporters were covered with hateful graffiti? During the general election that followed Liberal supporters had their brake lines cut, etc.  I always thought that this was related to the mafia rather than a political opponent, maybe I was wrong, although this government has appointed a judge who was a consigliere to the mafia.

    Guess who’s NOT-A-LEADER !

    • How can he be glorious and not-a at the same time?

  12. The NP ran their first story on this over 10 hours ago:  http://news.nationalpost.com/2012/02/22/racknine-inc-fraudulent-election-calls-traced/  (does that CEO look like a Hells Angel biker?)

Still not a peep from the Globe and Mail.  Why is that?  Are they implicated or something?

    • Ibbotson’s trying to back in Steve’s good books after trashing Toews last week over Bill-C30.

  13. It’s nice to see that Elections Canada took these complaints seriously.  So, how much is their department going to be cut in the 2013 budget?  How long until EC’s director sees theirself smeared in the media?
