Trump says this is ‘calm before the storm,’ refuses to elaborate

When asked what he meant by the comment, Trump simply replied, “You’ll find out.”

WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump delivered a foreboding message Thursday night, telling reporters as he posed for photos with his senior military leaders that this might be “the calm before the storm.”

White House reporters were summoned suddenly Thursday evening and told the president had decided he wanted the press to document a dinner he was holding with the military leaders and their wives.

Reporters were led hastily to the grand State Dining Room, where they walked into a scene of the president, his highest-ranking military aides and their wives posing for a group photo. The cameras clicked and they smiled. A joke was made about someone’s face being tired. Live classical music played.

Then, Trump gestured to the reporters in the room.

“You guys know what this represents?” Trump asked. “Maybe it’s the calm before the storm. Could be the calm, the calm before the storm.”

“What storm Mr. President?” one reporter shouted. ISIS? North Korea? Iran?

“You’ll find out,” the president said.

He also praised those assembled for the photo, saying: “We have the world’s great military people in this room, I will tell you that.”

Earlier in the evening, the president had lauded the group, including his defence secretary and chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and said they would be discussing the most pressing military issues facing the country, including North Korea and Iran.

Trump said “tremendous progress” had been made with respect to the Islamic State group, adding, “I guess the media’s going to be finding out about that over the next short period of time.”

He also denounced Iran, saying the country should not be allowed to obtain nuclear weapons, and offered another stark warning to North Korea’s Kim Jong Un.

“We cannot allow this dictatorship to threaten our nation or allies with unimaginable loss of life,” he said, vowing to “do what we must do to prevent that from happening and it will be done, if necessary. Believe me.”

He also said that, moving forward, he expects those in the room to provide him with “a broad range of military options, when needed, at a much faster pace.”

Trump says this is ‘calm before the storm,’ refuses to elaborate

  1. Trump has all the big guns and the nuclear football. He says a storm is coming. How safe do you feel?

    Compare this to gun control.

Should the US disarm itself completely, as the anti gun lobby would do to citizens?

Or would this be better addressed by reviewing the rules, ethics, morality and sanity of the person with the guns?

    • Okay now gun control is equivalent to nuclearr war?

  2. The anti-gun lobby doesn’t want to disarm completely. You’re playing an all-or-nothing scenario. They want gun CONTROLS brought in – background checks, no automatic weapons to be sold, etc. And this is not the same at all. You’re comparing apples to oranges – both fruit, both grown on trees, but that’s where the similarity ends.

Whenever 45 spouts, “Believe me”, and ominous b.s. like ‘calm before the storm’, he’s empty. This has been proven again and again. Like he’s the only one who can fix the country, “believe me”, and he won’t spend all HIS time on the golf course, ‘believe me’, and the wall is going to be YUGE! ‘believe me’. When he says crap like this, it’s like he’s saying lines from a cheap B movie. There’s no substance, no PROOF, and his cryptic crap is just more hot air. He’s not ‘refusing’ to elaborate, he simply can’t because he doesn’t have a plan. He couldn’t lead three blind mince to cheese.

The media needs to stop showing up to WH press briefings, stop coming to ‘document’ things when he snaps his fingers. Stop legitimizing him. He’s doing it for the ‘likes’ because he can’t get any intrinsic satisfaction from doing a job well.

    • Etc etc etc until people can’t protect themselves and have the ability to take back their freedom from corrupt government.

As long as people have these freedoms, the potential for mass shootings will exist. That potential is the cost of freedom today.

The anti gun lobby won’t stop until that freedom is lost, regardless of what you say.

Trump probably doesn’t have a plan. Maybe he’s just bluffing. Maybe someone will call his bluff.

The anti gun lobby has a plan and gun owners know it.

      • Americans shouldn’t be allowed out without adult supervision.

        Take yer hokum home yank

      • The government is corrupt. How’s the coup going so far?

So… I guess 30,000 deaths/year on average is the price the USA pays for this ‘freedom’? Guess that’s okay – as long as YOU’RE not killed, right? Or your spouse? Or your kids? Or a relative? Give your head a shake.

  3. So Mary, your number 30000 is pretty close to the 32000 total gun deaths reported for the year 2011 by the CDC and FBI.

Are you looking to completely disarm all civillians or not?

But let’s look at the details.

21000 of those deaths were suicides.
    2500 of them were accidental.
    Leaving 8500 as murders.

But police say only 10 % of all gun crimes are done with legally purchased guns. That means gun control laws would only have any impact on (certainly not prevent) 850 murders per year.

Of the original 8500 murders only 300 are done with rifles of all types, the rest handguns.

So as anyone can see, the hew and cry for stricter gun control after an unfortunate event like in Vegas will have very much less impact than the media and uninformed do gooders would have us believe.

It is a much smaller price to pay than for either driving automobiles or the criminal murder of babies in abortion.

Give your own head a shake.
