The Manning Networking Conference, like the Manning Centre for Building Democracy that stages the annual gathering of the Canadian right, is named for Preston Manning. He is founder and president of the Calgary-based centre and was, of course, founder and leader of the old federal Reform party.

John Geddes spoke with Manning about key issues in the air at this year’s conference, from carbon pricing, to democratic reform, to rising concerns about global Islamist extremism.
