As security and party honchos work overtime to ensure that the only demonstrations inside Cleveland’s Quicken Loans arena are prostrations at the feet of Donald Trump—officially the party’s torch-bearer—it’s been a festival of signage outside the Republican National Convention. Trump has not been picky about using the eye of Sauron that is his wanton angry rhetoric, and so a vast array of interest groups—Black Lives Matter, Christian evangelicals, Trump supporters, Trump bashers, pro-Mexican and anti-Muslim forces—have been making their voices heard outside.
