Sarnia, Ont., is in a snow belt, a fact welcomed by winter sports enthusiasts at Lambton College of Applied Arts and Technology since the 2015 opening of its one-of-a-kind snow park, created in partnership with cable wakeboarding company Boarder Pass. Skiing, snowboarding and tubing are now accessible to students free of charge. Though the park does not have hills, an innovative cable system and a series of jumps, wall-rides and a quarter pipe make these sports possible in a flatland environment.
With about 90 degree, diploma and certificate programs, Lambton has recently experienced a significant growth in full-time enrolment and is in the process of expanding its program roster. In 2015, it opened a Centre of Excellence in Energy & Bio-Industrial Technologies, fitting for its setting in an area with a booming energy sector. In 2016, it will open a 60,000-sq.-foot Centre for Health Education & Sustainable Care, featuring cutting-edge simulation technology for training and research. Lambton emphasizes mobile learning, with many courses incorporating mobile and hybrid educational technologies.
Lambton has a number of specialized centres for applied research and innovation, with 52 applied research projects currently under way. The centres include the Bluewater Technology Access Centre, Lambton Water Centre and Lambton Energy Research Centre. Projects are developed in partnership with local industries, providing ample learning opportunities for students.
To help foster the growth of student entrepreneurs, Lambton launched “the Cube,” an on-campus entrepreneurial hub that provides resources, community partnership opportunities and mentorship to students.
Lambton’s main campus in Sarnia has double-room student residences available.
