A new comic book is ‘definitely an art-imitating-life moment’

I’m no expert in Quebec history, so I always appreciate being told exactly who did what. Unfortunately, facts of the sort forgetful readers like me need to be reminded of were missing from the Globe and Mail‘s story today about a plan to read the FLQ’s 1970 manifesto at an event marking the 250th anniversary of the Battle of the Plains of Abraham.

The uninvited redecoration of Pierre Trudeau’s mausoleum over the weekend was telling in more ways than one. As Wells alludes, the misspelling of the word ‘traître’ speaks more to the state of Quebec’s education system than to the spectre of a resurgent FLQ. Whoever did this wanted to make the ultimate political statement, yet they couldn’t even spray paint the word ‘traitor’ properly. Wow.
