Canada donates fitness videos to DC schools

Childhood obesity is the signature cause of First Lady Michelle Obama. P90X is the preferred fitness regimen of Republican vice-presidential candidate Paul Ryan.

The Embassy of Canada in Washington has combined both in a new charitable effort:

On Sept. 20, the embassy will host fitness guru Tony Horton and donate his videos to DC public schools. From the press release:

The Embassy has invited a mix of military and civilian friends of Canada to participate in a 70-minute workout and then re-fuel with a light breakfast.

During the event (at approx. 9:20am), the Embassy of Canada will present copies of Tony Horton’s “power half hour” workout video to the D.C. Public School system. Representing the school system will be Heather Holaday, Manager of Health and Physical Education within the Office of Curriculum and Instruction.  The hope is that this effort will help the city’s 14 middle schools and 19 high schools explain and demonstrate the value of daily exercise not just to students in physical education programs, but also to family members at home.
