By the way, ABC Family has picked up a new sitcom starring Melissa Joan Hart and Joey Lawrence, sort of a knockoff of Who’s the Boss? but with Boy Meets World writers. (ABC Family seems to be trying to bring back that type of show — that is, a “family” show but pitched older than the stuff Disney Channel does. The other pilot they ordered and didn’t pick up was from Michael Jacobs.) And no, there’s nothing inherently wrong with their return to TV; they’re both old pros at this point.

The reason I mention this here is that if Lawrence is getting a show again, this brings him one step closer to getting on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno. This is something that would be fascinating for those who remember Bill Hicks’s almost 20 year-old dream of what would happen if Leno interviewed Joey Lawrence: “My God, what have I done with my life! I used to be funny!”

  1. I wonder if the people in the I'm with Coco camp will prank the Leno show.
I don't know how big the studio audiences are for these shows but I imagine it wouldn't be too hard to stack an audience with some determined people.
If I was still in school and heading to LA for the spring break I would join in something like that.
I want to see half the audience chanting 'not funny' or 'you hack'.
Even if it was only on one of those bad cellphone at a concert videos.
That would be 'Gold, Jerry, Gold!'.

    • Is the show actually live?

      • I don't believe any of the late night shows have been shot live for years.

    • I was sort of wondering about the audience for his return, too. I mean, I don't know how long the waiting list was for Conan tickets, but there is the potential that people who wanted to see him now have Leno tix.

Have you ever seen the clip of Rush Limbaugh hosting "The Pat Sajak Show"? The audience is so hostile towards him that he has to clear the studio out to finish the show.
