Tim Alamenciak
Tim Alamenciak has been involved in the campus newspaper community for nearly four years. He has most recently served a one and a half year term as editor-in-chief of Imprint, the University of Waterloo's official student newspaper. During Tim's time at Imprint, the paper won three community newspaper awards at both the national and provincial levels. Tim is currently taking some classes and freelancing.

Laura Anderson
Laura Anderson is presently serving as Chairperson and Director of External Affairs of the Kwantlen Student Association. A holder of an Associate Degree in Criminology, Ms Anderson has served in many capacities in student politics such as Student Representative on Education Council at Kwantlen, and Provincial executive member of the BC component of the Canadian Federation of Students. She regularly teaches kickboxing at Kikara Martial Arts Academies, enjoys whitewater rafting and jewellery making, and plans to attend law school.


Amanda Aziz Amanda Aziz
 Amanda Aziz is the Chairperson of the Canadian Federation of Students, Canada’s student movement. Amanda became politically active at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, where she served on the University of Manitoba Students’ Union(UMSU)Council for 3 years(2001-2004)and as President of the Union for two years(2004-2006).Amanda has a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Environmental Science from the University of Manitoba.

Sarah Barmak Sarah Barmak
Sarah Barmak is a freelance journalist and a grad student in cinema studies at the University of Toronto. She is the former Editor-in-Chief of The Varsity, U of T's sometimes-beloved, oft-reviled student newspaper. She has been lucky enough to write on pop culture and urban issues in such places as the Toronto Star and the National Post.

Ken Coates Nadya Bell
Nadya Bell has worked in the student press for six years and interviewed several generations of student leaders and university administrators. She began working at The Muse, the student paper at Memorial University in Newfoundland, and is currently completing a Masters of Journalism at Carleton University. Nadya is in her second year as the Canadian University Press' Ottawa Bureau Chief, reporting on university and student issues from Parliament Hill.

Joseph Berger Joseph Berger
Prior to joining the Canada Millennium Scholarship Foundation's research and program development section, Joseph worked in its communications division, overseeing the publication and promotion of the Millennium Research Series. Joseph is interested in understanding how policies designed to improve equitable access to higher education can be nurtured through research and evaluation. A native Montrealer, Joseph completed a bachelor's degree in journalism at Concordia University, where he is currently pursuing a master's degree in public policy and public administration. He is a co-author of the 2006-07 edition of the Foundation's flagship publication, The Price of Knowledge .

Ian Boyko Ian Boyko
Ian Boyko is the Campaigns and Government Relations Coordinator for the Canadian Federation of Students. With predecessor organizations dating back to the 1930s, the Canadian Federation of Students has been lobbying the federal and provincial governments on student issues since 1981. The Federation is comprised of over 80 college, university undergraduate, and university graduate students’ unions from across Canada with a combined membership of nearly one-half million students.
Ian also served as National Chairperson of the Federation for thre terms between 2001 and 2004. He became active in the student movement at the University of Windsor, where he earned an Honours Degree in Psychology.

Robert Clift Robert Clift
Robert Clift is the Executive Director of the Confederation of University Faculty Associations of British Columbia, where he has become a leading commentator on post-secondary education. For the past 20 years, first as a student activist and then as a representative of university faculty, he has advocated for a highly-accessible, high-quality system of public post-secondary education. He is also an academic, affiliated with the Centre for Policy Studies in Higher Education and Training at the University of BC, where he has done work on the financing of and access to higher education, and the history of student organizations.

Ken Coates is Professor of History and Dean of Arts, the University of Waterloo. He previously held administrative positions at the University of Waikato(New Zealand), the University of New Brunswick at Saint John, and the University of Saskatchewan. His research focuses on northern Canadian history, Aboriginal-newcomer relations, and post-secondary education.

Joey Coleman Joey Coleman
Joey Coleman is a student at McMaster University in Hamilton. Growing up in Hamilton East, Joey overcame many challenges he faced during a difficult childhood. Guided by the Hamilton East Kiwanis Boys' and Girls' Club, he went from a community nuisance to community leader. He served three years with the Canadian Forces prior to attending the University of Manitoba. While at the University of Manitoba, he served briefly on the student union council. Currently at McMaster, he writes for the campus newspaper and volunteers as the webmaster for the Boys' and Girls' Club. His blog(www.joeycoleman.ca/blog)is a leading source for news on student politics across Canada, including many exclusives.

James Côté
James Côté is Professor of Sociology at the University of Western Ontario, where he has taught since the early 80s. His most recent book is Ivory Tower Blues: A University System in Crisis , with the University of Toronto Press, co-authored with Anton Allahar. He has also published numerous journal articles on student experiences with higher education. Research interests overlapping with higher education include the sociology of youth(Critical Youth Studies , Pearson Education, 2006), and the social psychology of identity(Identity Formation, Agency, and Culture , Lawrence Erlbaum, 2002).

Tracey Lindeman Scott Courtice
Scott Courtice is the outgoing Executive Director of the Ontario Undergraduate Student Alliance, and organization representing over 125,000 undergraduate students in Ontario. He lobbies the provincial government of Ontario to affect their post-secondary education policies, and is also responsible for representing OUSA to the media and other stakeholders. Scott was born and raised in London, Ontario and completed his undergraduate degree at Queen's University.

Jeff Friedrich is entering his fifth year as a student in the Global Resource Systems program in the Faculty of Land and Food at UBC. Jeff is also the current President of the AMS, the student society of UBC, a student representative to the University's Board of Governors, and Chair of the Board for the Canadian Alliance of Student Associations.

Kristin Fryer Kristin Fryer
Kristin Fryer is Editor-in-Chief of the Mars' Hill, Trinity Western University's award-winning student newspaper. Prior to her current position, Kristin served as Mars' Hill's News Editor, and was a member of TWU's Student Association. She is in her final year of university, completing her B.A.(Hons.)in English.

Wassim Garzouzi Wassim Garzouzi
Wassim Garzouzi is the Editor-in-Chief for La Rotonde, the University of Ottawa's French-language newspaper. In 2007, he served as Interim Program Director at CHUO FM. He is the Canadian University Press' first National Francophonie Representative, as well as being a full-time law student at the University of Ottawa. Born in Ottawa and raised on the Québec side of the River, Garzouzi is all about politics—be it municipal, provincial(or national), federal... and yes, university.

Tracey Lindeman Jesse Greener
Jesse Greener is the Ontario Chairperson for the Canadian Federation of Students and formerly the Chairperson for the Federation's National Graduate Caucus. He was formerly a student at the University of Western Ontario where he was active in his local students' union serving as both an executive member and as a Graduate Student Senator. During that timehe worked closely with the local faculty and staff associations with the goal of unifying campus constituents and developing common platforms on such issues as university funding, tuition fees, equitable employment, class sizes, and academic freedom.

Denise Hammond is the executive director of communications and outreach at the Ryerson Students' Union.

Trevor Hanna Trevor Hanna
Trevor Hanna, a Montreal native, is currently pursuing a B.Sc. in Physics at McGill University. He is a former Vice-President(Federal and International Affairs)and English-language Spokesperson of the Quebec Federation of University Students(FEUQ), Quebec's largest youth group.

Derrick Harder Derrick Harder
Derrick Harder is an undergraduate student in History at Simon Fraser University. He lives with his partner in East Vancouver. He is currently President of the Simon Fraser Student Society, and also sits on the university's Senate and Board of Governors.

Carson Jerema Carson Jerema
Carson Jerema is a political science student at the University of Manitoba. He has been involved with student media since 2003, and served as editor-in-chief of the U of M student newspaper, the Manitoban in 2006–07. He is also opinions bureau chief for Canadian University Press. He has written about education for the Winnipeg Free Press and has contributed several political biographies to the forthcoming Encyclopedia of Manitoba, to be published by the Winnipeg based Great Plains Publications. He will be pursuing a masters degree in political science in fall 2007.

David Karp David Karp
David Karp is a student journalist and economics student at the University of Victoria. He has written for French and English student publications across Canada and the United States, and worked as a research assistant with the B.C. Ministry of Advanced Education. David is also an award-winning music composer.

Clive Keen Clive Keen
Dr Clive Keen began his career as a lecturer in philosophy, but in the years since has played many roles, including founder of a major marketing and public relations company, Associate Dean of a Faculty of Business, Director of Communications of a newly created university, and Executive Director of Canada's largest online university. He is currently Director of Lifelong Learning and Enrolment Management at the University of Prince Edward Island, Canada. Author of six books on communications and higher education, he is also an actor, playing a number of lead roles in plays, musicals and opera, as well as a caver. He has been a regular speaker on Canadian television and radio, primarily discussing education-related issues, though his talk "Leadership Lessons from the Underground" has been particularly popular on the speakers' circuit.

Tony Keller Tony Keller
Tony Keller is Managing Editor, Special Projects at Maclean’s. He oversees the annual Maclean’s University Rankings Issue, the Maclean’s Guide to Canadian Universities, the University Student Issue, the new Graduate and Professional School issue, and macleans.ca/university. Keller was previously the founding editor of National Post Business(now known as Financial Post Business), and redacteur en chef of a French-language sister publication, le Financial Post. Prior to that, he was a member of the editorial board, a columnist and the editorial page editor at The Globe and Mail. He has also been a columnist for The Toronto Star. A bilingual native of Montreal, Keller holds a B.A. in history and political science from Duke and a Master of Studies in Law from Yale. He has also been a teaching fellow with the Cambodia Genocide Project in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, and a visiting fellow at the University of Toronto Faculty of Law.

Spencer Keys
Spencer Keys
Spencer Keys is currently the Executive Director of the Alliance of Nova Scotia Student Associations, the largest student association in the Maritimes. He advises political parties and government on post-secondary education financing and student debt. Prior to working at ANSSA, Spencer was the president of the Alma Mater Society of the University of British Columbia as well as the Western Regional Director of the Canadian Alliance of Student Associations. He is now completing his degree in political philosophy.

Vanessa Larkey Vanessa Larkey
Vanessa Larkey has been involved with the student press for the past four years. She is currently finishing a combined journalism and history degree at the University of Toronto and has has written for such U of T publications as The Underground and The Varsity. During the 2006–2007 school year she served as the Ontario Regional Director for the Canadian University Press and was the Co-Editor-in-Chief of The Underground.

Greg Lee Greg Lee
Dr. Lee, president of Capilano College, joined the College in 1971 and has held a variety of positions as faculty member and administrator.  Dr. Lee became President in March 1995.  He has been active in a number of associations and committees, including the CBIE, ACCC, BCCP, BCBC, Open University of BC Academic Council, and the United Way.

Tracey Lindeman Tracey Lindeman
Tracey Lindeman has four years' experience in the student press, having served as editor-in-chief and Board of Directors chairperson at The Link at Concordia University. She has also worked with Canadian University Press in several editorial and administrative capacities, and freelances for a number of publications including The Mirror, Montreal's major alternative weekly. She enjoys mingling with other journalists, going to concerts and going on cross-continental bus expeditions.

Tim has degrees in Political Science('04)and Law('07)from UBC, though he also attended the U of Ottawa.  At UBC, he was a member of the Board of Governors, was President of the Debating Society, and chaired the first-year Orientation program.  He's currently involved with the UBC Alumni Association and beginning a legal career.

Dave Marshall Dave Marshall
Dr. Dave Marshall is currently President of Mount Royal College, a largely baccalaureate college in Calgary, Alberta. He was the first President of Nipissing University from 1990 to 2003 and the Dean of Education from 1985 to 1990. Dr. Marshall writes and speaks regularly on the topics of degree accreditation and degree recognition especially as they relate to degrees from non-university institutions in Canada.

Erin Millar is editor of the Macleans.ca Education section. She spent two years as editor-in-chief of the Capilano Courier -- the student paper at Cap College in North Vancouver -- before serving as president of Canadian University Press, a newspaper cooperative owned by 75 Canadian student publications. Aside from writing and editing, she has been spotted performing jazz saxophone at various locales across Canada.

Sarah Millar Sarah Millar
Sarah Millar's knowledge of universities is two-fold: she is a student studying film at York University in Toronto and has worked at York's student paper Excalibur for over two years. She has written for the Hamilton Spectator and the Owen Sound Sun Times. Her stories have appeared in the Toronto Star and run on the Canadian Press newswire.

Currently the Executive Director of the McMaster Association of Part-Time Students and part-time graduate student pursuing a M.Ed. in Post-Secondary Studies, Sam Minniti has been extensively involved with student advocacy both provincially and federally for the past 10 years, and has been a post-secondary education policy analyst and advisor for a former Cabinet Minister.

Matthew Naylor is the Vice President – External Affairs for the Alma Mater Society at UBC, the largest student association in Canada with almost 45,000 members. He also represents the AMS to CASA, the Canadian Alliance of Students Associations. He has been active in student politics since arriving at UBC through both the AMS and the Science Undergraduate Society. Matthew is currently in his third year of studies towards a Political Science degree.

Ross Prusakowski Ross Prusakowski
Ross Prusakowski is a columnist and writer for the Gateway, the student newspaper at the University of Alberta. Ross began as a sports writer covering countless Golden Bears and Pandas sporting events until he realized there was life beyond athletics and began covering news and penning opinion columns focusing primarily on student and campus issues. Ross has also been a member of the Gateway Student Journalism Society's Board of Directors for three years and is currently serving as Chair. This managing experience and interest landed him a term as Chair of, and Prairies and Northern Regional Director on the Canadian University Press(CUP)Board of Directors.
In addition to his student-journalism pursuits, Ross spends his time working on a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics and History from the University of Alberta, looking for Graduate Programs and defending his hometown of Calgary.

Jeff Rybak Jeff Rybak
Jeff Rybak is the author of What's Wrong With University: And How to Make It Work For You Anyway, from ECW Press. After several years serving students at the University of Toronto Scarborough, both within university governance structures and as their primary academic advocate within the students' union, Jeff began work on this book, now in general release. It acknowledges difficulties within the university system, and helps to explain them, but is essentially geared towards helping students navigate these problems proactively and successfully. Jeff graduated in 2006 with an Honours Bachelor of Arts in English. He currently serves as a director on the board of CIRA(the Canadian Internet Registration Authority)and will be attending law school at the University of Toronto in September '07.

Garry Sran

Garry Sran is currently studying Statistics in the Faculty of Science, and received a B.A. Honours degree in Economics in May 2005 from the University of Manitoba. Garry has a long history of student involvement on campus, serving in a variety of capacities including being very active with the Arts Student Body Council, serving as President in 2004-2005, Senator from 2003-2004, and as a representative on the University of Manitoba's Student Union(UMSU)Council from 2002-2003 and related committees. Garry also sat on the UMSU Student Affairs Committee in 2004-2005, and was active with the Undergraduate Economics Society helping to organize academic events for students. Garry also has experience with University governance, serving on the Faculty of Arts Council and related committees from 2003-2005, and representing students' academic concerns on the University Senate from 2003-2004, and serving on the University of Manitoba Board of Governors since 2006. Garry has been recently re-elected as UMSU President and will be serving his second term in 2007-2008 academic year.


Eric Szeto Eric Szeto
Eric Szeto is a philosophy graduate of the University of British Columbia where he is also editor-in-chief of the Ubyssey, one of Canada's largest student newspapers. As Western Bureau Chief for Canadian University Press, Szeto has been on the beat reporting on post-secondary issues such as the proliferation of illegal operations in BC's private post-secondary sector and Coca-Cola exclusivity deals in North American universities. He has also freelanced for various publications including the award-winning online publication the Tyee.

Mike Tipping is President of the Dalhousie Student Union and is Chair of the Alliance of Nova Scotia Student Associations, the largest student organization in Atlantic Canada. Mike is currently studying Political Science at Dalhousie University.

Dave Weatherall
Dave Weatherall is the former Quebec bureau chief for Canadian University Press and was subsequently elected the organisation's national bureau chief. He also worked at the Montreal Gazette as a city reporter where, among other issues, he covered the Quebec student strike that erupted after the Quebec government's cut $104 million from the bursary program. Dave is a fan of public, affordable, quality education and dislikes the idea of students graduating from Canada with an average debt of $20,000.
