Sitar master Ravi Shankar died Tuesday in San Diego at the age of 92.

The “godfather of world music,” as he was once called by George Harrison, inspired musicians in the East and West. The prime minister of India said he was a “national treasure and a global ambassador of India’s cultural heritage.”
