If you want to enhance your leadership potential without committing to on-campus courses, consider the University of Fredericton’s Sandermoen School of Business. An entirely online university, U Fred offers executive MBA degrees in eight specialty concentrations: global leadership, innovation, business analytics, social enterprise, human resources, real estate, and health and safety. In 2018, the school added a sales management and leadership stream to its roster
U Fred’s EMBA programming targets industries where employees tend to enter management positions through performance and experience, but have no post-secondary business education. Eligible candidates have five or more years of work experience, including two years in management positions.
Taking one course per session, completing the program takes about two and a half years. Depending on course availability, it is possible to finish the program sooner by taking two courses per session. New students are admitted six times per year, and the program begins with a one-week (online) orientation followed by 10 foundation-level courses, each seven weeks long. Classes are held weekly, streamed live, and students work in virtual teams. After two years, the teams have worked closely on multiple projects and have established a network across the country.
Each program includes three courses focused on the specialty, and ends with a final project. For some students, this can include an international field study component, attending conferences and seminars abroad and meeting industry leaders from around the world.
U Fred’s EMBA programs are designed to meet industry needs and are supported by advisory councils. The real estate leadership EMBA has the backing of the Real Estate Institute of Canada, while the Canadian Society of Safety Engineers contributed to the creation of the health and safety program.
