New Brunswick government announces deal for new medical school

Will admit 30 students each year

New Brunswick has announced a long-awaited deal for an English-language medical training program in Saint John.Post-Secondary Education Minister Ed Doherty says the University of New Brunswick in Saint John and Nova Scotia’s Dalhousie University will begin offering the four-year undergraduate program to train new doctors in 2010. Doherty says Dalhousie will deliver the curriculum while UNB will provide the student services.

The program will accept 30 new students each year. It was originally expected to begin last year, but the start date has been delayed a number of times.

The minister says the new program will build on the francophone medical program now offered at the University of Moncton.
