This Wednesday, TVOntario’s flagship public affairs program The Agenda with Stave Paikin will be discussing York University at 50 years old.
TVO is looking for your opinion on their forums. You can visit them and add your York story or anecdote.
There is plenty to discuss about Toronto’s second university. An interesting history, including some of the most contentious labour and student/administration disputes that have occurred at any Canadian university.
I’m more interested in what will happen to York in the next 50 years. What will York look like at 100? To be honest, I don’t think anyone can fathom an accurate prediction.
I don’t believe any of the founders of York University could have predicted the explosive growth of the suburban Greater Toronto Area. It is this growth that has dictated the growth and direction of York University. It is the changing demographics of the “905 Belt” which will ultimately decide the future direction of York University.
