Introducing the new First Couple of Canadian pop-rock
Pop-singer Avril Lavigne and Nickleback frontman Chad Kroeger are tying the knot, People magazine reports. With millions of international record sales between them, the couple may be on their way to becoming Canada’s most famous – or infamous – couple.
Lavigne, best known as the singer of the Top 40 ear-worms “Complicated” and “Sk8er Boi”, married Sum 41 frontman, and fellow Canadian pop-punker, Deryck Whibley in 2006. Whibley and Lavigne divorced in 2009 and Sum 41 has not recorded a hit single since 2005.
Nickleback is one of the most popular, and critically reviled, Canadian bands of all time. Known for their grunge – alternative hit “How You Remind me”, the Alberta band has sold over 50 million albums worldwide but has also been labeled “the world’s most hated band” by rock critics.
