Research in Motion’s Jim Balsillie has offered US$212.5 million to buy the cash-strapped Phoenix Coyotes after the NHL team filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Tuesday. The deal is contingent on moving the team to Southern Ontario. Sources, however, tell ESPN that it’s unlikely the league or the city of Glendale will okay the deal. In Prague today, PM Stephen Harper expressed his support for a seventh Canadian team in the NHL.
