‘Book of Mormon’ tops list of Tony nominees

‘South Park’ creators’ musical gets 14 nominations for Broadway’s top award

The 65th annual Tony Award nominations have been announced, and leading the pack is The Book of Mormon, the profane Broadway musical from the creators of South Park and Avenue Q. The show got 14 nominations, the most of any play this year, including Best Musical and Best Actor (for star Josh Gad). Also doing well in the nominations was a less successful production, The Scottsboro Boys, the last show by the team of John Kander and Fred Ebb (Chicago), which has already closed. Among non-musical plays, Jez Butterworth’s Jerusalem got the most nominations. A notable snub: though the successful revival of How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying received multiple nominations, the show’s star, Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter) was not nominated.
