Canadians raised the most money of all the participating countries during Movember, a November funding drive where men grow moustaches to support prostate cancer and men’s health charities.

As razors buzzed across the country on Dec. 1 (official shaving day), a total of 247,066 Canadians had participated, raising $36.8 million.

This is the second year in a row Canada has topped the list of participating countries. The money raised in Canada will go to Prostate Cancer Canada and Canadian Male Health Network.

Movember stated in 2003 when a group of friends in Australia grew moustaches to raise awareness and money for prostate cancer research.

Since then, more than two million men worldwide have participated in the event, much to the chagrin of wives, girlfriends and romantic partners everywhere.
