Car bomb in Kabul kills 17

Taliban claims responsibility for blast near Indian embassy

A suicide car bomb blast in the Afghan capital, Kabul, killed at least 17 people and injured more than 60. The blast occurred near the Indian embassy at 08:27 local time. The Taliban claimed responsibility. India is a strong ally of the Afghan government, and its embassy has been attacked before. Dozens died in bombing at the Indian embassy building last July. The Taliban have been increasingly targeting the Afghan capital in recent months, bringing the insurgency to an area that was previously considered relatively safe.
