The City of Vaughan caused a stir Friday morning after going way, way off message in its social media account during a snowstorm in the city north of Toronto.
Ouch @city_of_vaughan. I guess they haven’t noticed yet because it’s still up an hour later. twitter.com/_melissaashley…
— Melissa Perri (@_melissaashley) February 8, 2013
The offensive tweet was soon deleted, but not before many people retweeted the original tweet, took screengrabs of it, or expressed their (mock) outrage.
Aw, @city_of_vaughan has deleted the Tweet that brought me so much joy. Thank you for playing a small but delightful part in my life.

I support @city_of_vaughan’s saucy outrage.

Then the account disappeared altogether for a time, before reappearing with this message: “The City of Vaughan apologizes for the inappropriate tweet that came earlier today from its corporate Twitter account.”
And with this redirect:
hey folks! did you know its totally snowing outside?

While the city hopes everyone will go back to talking about the snow day, there is probably a lesson to be learned here about being very careful not to get your personal and work Twitter accounts mixed up.
