Emergency airlift for Saskatchewan communities - Macleans.ca
In response to a massive forest fire threat, five military aircrafts were dispatched to northern Saskatchewan Wednesday to evacuate the communities of Wollaston Lake and Hatchet Lake First Nation. 872 residents have been flown to safety in southern Saskatchewan. The fire, which began in a nearby community, has grown to about 500 hectares. The RCMP located the fire on Monday and predicted it would not exceed 10 hectares. Over 50 homes remain under threat from the encroaching flames.
