ESPN pulls Hank Williams Jr.’s Monday Night Football intro

Country singer made comments comparing Obama to Hitler

Last night ESPN pulled its famous opening to Monday Night Football, with Hank Williams Jr. singing “Are You Ready for Some Football?” The move was due to controversy over comments the singer made that morning on Fox News’ Fox & Friends, when he compared President Barack Obama to Hitler. When the hosts tried to talk him away from the comparison, the country star doubled down, saying “I’m telling you like it is.” ESPN announced that it was “extremely disappointed” with Williams’ comments, and “as a result we have decided to pull the open from tonight’s telecast.” Williams has issued a statement saying that he was “misunderstood” and that his analogy, while extreme, “was to make a point.” ESPN has not yet announced whether the intro song, which it has used since 1989, would be restored.
