Ford sees record sales of fuel-efficient cars

High gas prices made many Canadians go green on the road

High gas prices have contributed to Ford Motor Co.’s best June sales record in 22 years, the Montreal Gazette reports. Ford’s sales increased by 6 percent last month, with a large number of customers switching to the brand’s fuel-efficient cars due to high gas prices. General Motors of Canada Ltd., and Chrysler Canada have also benefited from the rising cost of fuel, with GM sales increasing 8.4 per cent and Chrysler’s by 27 per cent. Honda Canada, however, is struggling right now due to a showroom vehicle shortage caused by the Japanese earthquake.
