GG’s husband denies asking Queen to stay in hotel

Lafond calls remarks “insulting and ill-intentioned”

We reported this morning that the Governor General’s husband raised some eyebrows in Ottawa after the Toronto Sun reported that Jean-Daniel Lafond had requested the royal couple stay in a hotel, rather than in Rideau Hall, the official residence of the crown. “I… vehemently deny the insulting and ill-intentioned remarks,” Lafond said in a written statement Wednesday afternoon. “The current allegations are completely unfounded, given that we warmly welcomed Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh right before we left Canada for our visit to China, and wished them not only a wonderful visit to the country, but also a lovely stay at Rideau Hall.”
