The most dedicated watchers were in Atlantic Canada, where 56 per cent of residents tuned in to coverage at some point, while only 13 per cent of British Columbians—who would have had to get up at 3 am to catch the show—watched. Reports have U.S. numbers at just under 23 million viewers, while an estimated 2.2 billion tuned in worldwide, compared to only 750 million for the 1981 wedding of Charles and Diana.
