Mulroney tears up on the stand

The former PM says reporters were giggling during his testimony

Justice Jeffrey Oliphant called an early lunch to allow Brian Mulroney to regain his composure after the former prime minister came close to tears on the witness stand yesterday. The former prime minister’s eyes welled up when he was asked how the accusations against him over the Airbus scandal affected his family. His aides later blamed the incident on journalists they said were laughing as Mulroney spoke. The former prime minister was testifying for the second day at a public inquiry into his dealings with German businessman Karlheinz Schreiber.
