Montreal police identify murder victim

Montreal police say they are “99.999 per cent” sure they have identified the man found dead and dismembered in Montreal.

At a press conference Friday morning, police said that while they don’t yet have DNA confirmation, the victim was almost certainly Jun Lin, a 33-year-old Chinese student who was attending Concordia University.

Cmdr. Ian Lafreniere also told reporters that their primary suspect, Luka Rocca Magnotta, 29, is thought to have boarded a flight for Europe on May 26, CTV reports.

“We know he left Montreal for a destination in Europe and this is the latest information we have,” Lafreniere said.

Magnotta, the subject of an international manhunt, is believed to be in France.

Lafrenière has said previously that Magnotta was in a relationship with his victim. “They were dating,” he said. “They’ve been involved in a relationship.”
