Prince Philip has been admitted to hospital in what is the latest in a series of health problems for the husband of Queen Elizabeth II.

The Duke of Edinburgh, who will be 92 this month, was admitted for “an exploratory operation following abdominal pains,” reports Sky News.

Buckingham Palace says Philip is expected to remain in hospital for up to two weeks. BBC reports the operation is scheduled for Friday.

The Prince has cancelled engagements in May and June, some surrounding the celebration of the Queen’s 60th coronation anniversary, due to poor health.

The Prince made a short visit to Toronto in April. He inspected troops and took part in a flag ceremony for the 3rd Battalion, Royal Canadian Regiment, of which he is colonel-in-chief.
