Seal hunt politically untouchable

Ill-fated proposal incites a round of allegations and recriminations on the Hill

Whatever the controversy elsewhere in Canada and across Europe, the seal hunt is apparently not up for discussion in Ottawa. Liberal senator Marc Harb tried to introduce legislation yesterday calling for a ban on the hunt, but his motion went completely untouched, Harb unable to find a single senator who would so much as second it. The European Union is currently considering a ban on most seal products. Though effectively dead, Harb’s ill-fated proposal has incited a round of allegations and recriminations on the Hill between Liberals and Conservatives.
