Media supports allegations made by book
Swedish King Carl Gustav’s reputation has been severely tarnished by The Reluctant Monarch—a book released in November detailing the king’s alleged strip-club visits, extra-marital affairs, and mafia connections. Royal sympathizers say that despite being billed as a biography, the book is nothing more than a tabloid rag. The Swedish media has been far less kind, confirming the book’s unsavoury allegations in the press. Even though recent polls show a large portion of Swedes support the 65-year-old monarch, some say the media’s allegations will lead the public to question the Crown’s right to its annual tax-payer funded 122 million kronor stipend.
