The suit makes the man?

Michael Phelps misses 2 of 3 finals wearing old-style swimsuit

American swimmer Michael Phelps, the winner of eight gold medals at the Beijing Games, was one of only a few competitors to show up for a World Cup short-course meet wearing an old-style swimsuit. The results speak for themselves: Phelps finished out of the finals in two races and barely made it into a third, finishing seventh. It’s not clear whether his swimsuit made a difference—Phelps claims he’s not “in the best shape”—but if it did, he better get used to the slower pace. As of next year, the old-style swimsuits will be the standard.
