With an average monthly rent of $1,154, Metro Vancouver has overtaken Calgary and Toronto as the city with the highest rent in the country. On June 10, the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation released a report concluding that the average rent for a Vancouver two-bedroom apartment has increased by 7.7 per cent since April 2008. Last year, the most expensive places to live were Calgary ($1,096) and Toronto ($1,075). The other two most expensive cities are Edmonton and Victoria. The study surveyed Canada’s 35 major centres and found that the national rent average has increased by 2.9 per cent.
