Greenpeace says Canadians among activists arrested in ship in Russia's Arctic

Greenpeace says two Canadian men are among a number of activists arrested in the high Arctic after armed Russian Coast Guard officials boarded their ship.

Spokeswoman Christy Ferguson says Paul Ruzycki of Port Colborne, Ont., and another man from Montreal are among 25 crew members being detained aboard the Arctic Sunrise.

Ferguson says the Montreal man’s identity cannot be released at this time.

Ferguson says armed coast guard officials boarded the Arctic Sunrise in Russia’s Arctic waters — where Greenpeace has been protesting oil drilling — and held the crew at gunpoint.

Ferguson says the boarding was illegal, claiming the ship was sailing in international waters at the time.
