Mall owner facing 2nd day of questions about what he did to avert collapse

ELLIOT LAKE, Ont. – The owner of the Algo Centre Mall faces another long day on the witness stand today at the inquiry into the mall’s deadly collapse last summer.

In sometimes testy exchanges with commission counsel, Bob Nazarian insisted he did everything he could to stop the roof from leaking.

Nazarian testified he spent money, time and energy searching for a solution to an intractable problem.

He did come to realize, he said, that the poorly designed roof of the mall in Elliot Lake, Ontario would likely always leak.

At that point, Nazarian opted to try to sell the mall even as contractors kept trying patches and other fixes.

Commission counsel angered Nazarian by suggesting he was just too cheap to do what was needed.
