Police to release more details of gun and drugs raids involving apartment linked to Rob Ford video scandal

TORONTO – More details are expected today on a massive police operation against suspected drug and gun traffickers that resulted in raids across southern Ontario.

The raids began early Thursday and involved police from multiple jurisdictions including Peel, York, Halton, Durham, the RCMP and Ontario Provincial Police.

The investigation, known as Project Traveller, centred on the alleged activities of a Toronto gang known alternately as the Dixon City Bloods or the Dixon Goonies.

Toronto police Chief Bill Blair says the investigation involves such serious alleged crimes as murder, attempted murder, firearm trafficking and drug trafficking.

Police say 19 people were arrested in Toronto and nine in Windsor, adding that to date 43 people have been arrested in the investigation.

Locations raided around the Greater Toronto Area included an apartment complex where reports have said an alleged video that appears to show Toronto Mayor Rob Ford smoking crack cocaine was located.
