The numbers are staggering; the tragedy is difficult to process. At least 129 are dead, with 352 more injured, in a string of what appear to be coordinated suicide bombings, shootings and hostage-takings across Paris.

In a night where France’s foundational pillars came under fire—its liberté and its égalité, its liberty and equality—people in Paris and around the globe came through to provide what they could in the way of fraternité. Cities lit up with the colours of France’s tricolore flag, and leaders and citizens sent social-media missives of strength. Here’s how the world showed its support for Paris.
